Lawsuit Filed Over Salmonella Outbreak at Food Festival

Comments Off

A couple that attended the Taste of Chicago claims they later became very sick. They were both hospitalized for four days. Now, they have filed what is believed to be the first lawsuit following a salmonella outbreak at the food festival.

The couple is suing Pars Cove Persian Cuisine whose booth carried hummus contaminated with salmonella bacteria, the suit claims. The couple suffered high fever, diarrhea and dehydration, said their attorney. Filed in Cook County Circuit Court, the suit seeks unspecified damages.

While health officials do believe the hummus was the cause of the outbreak, not all test results are back.

As of Monday, over 500 people claimed to have digestive problems after ingesting the hummus served at the Pars Cove booth. Fifty cases have been confirmed as salmonella and seventeen people were hospitalized.
