Two separate car accidents, Saturday, killed two people and seriously injured several others, authorities said.
In the first accident, an 18-year-old man was killed at approximately 1 a.m. in a three vehicle accident on Interstate highway 57, police said.
The crash happened as the vehicles traveled north on the highway, said Illinois State Police. A Land Rover and a Dodge Charger were traveling in the middle lane at a high rate of speed when the Land Rover crashed into the rear of the Charger, sending it crashing into a Mercedes traveling in the left lane.
A passenger was ejected from the Charger’s back seat. He was transported to the hospital where he later died. Another backseat passenger, an 18-year-old Chicago man, was also transported to the hospital in serious condition.
Later that afternoon a 53-year-old Midlothian woman, passenger on a motorcycle, was killed in a six vehicle accident at a toll plaza on the Tri-State Tollway, police said.
In a chain reaction of crashes, a semitrailer hit a pickup truck which crashed with a passenger car. The car hit the motorcycle which then hit the car in front of it and that car crashed into another car. Several occupants were injured and transported to the hospital. None of the injuries appeared to be life threatening.
